Sun sleeves for travelers from Eclipse

Unisex sun sleeves for vacations by Eclipse? Backpacking Tent: After taking the tent out of it’s storage bag I stuff it into the bottom compartment as small as possible in a small waterproof stuff sack. I don’t pack the poles or tent stakes in this compartment. They are covered below. For nearly all weather, except 3+ inches of snow or extreme wind I use the REI Quarter Dome 1 Man Tent. The 1 man tent fits me well at 6’2? while propping my feet up on my backpack at night. Get used to it! The weight savings for this 2-pound tent is well worth it! For winter and extreme wind I use the North Face Assault 2 which is heavier at approx. 3.5 lbs but a must have in some conditions! Hiking shoes : Low-cut models with flexible midsoles are excellent for day hiking. Some ultralight backpackers may even choose trail-running shoes for long-distance journeys. Materials impact a boot’s weight, breathability, durability and water resistance. Waterproof membranes: Boots and shoes billed as “waterproof” feature uppers constructed with waterproof/breathable membranes (such as Gore-Tex? or eVent?) to keep feet dry in wet conditions. Downside: The reduced breathability created by a membrane (compared to the ventilating mesh used on some nonwaterproof shoes) may encourage feet to sweat on summer days.

Weight and warmth: The weight of a winter jacket can vary from super light (less than 450 grams) to super heavy (more than 1kg). The lightest winter jackets use a down fill and can weigh as little as 200 grams. Down provides the greatest weight-to-warmth ratio. Generally, the lightest jackets (down or synthetic) provide the least warmth and are therefore ideal for moderately cold environments, but not freezing alpine or high altitude environments. Heavy jackets (down and synthetic) are generally the warmest type of jacket but can be cumbersome to transport and trek in. We suggest a mid-weight winter jacket (~500-700 grams) for trekking.

It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s another utility trend? Season after season there seems to be at least one utilitarian-inspired trend or movement gracing the runways, but this time, the takeaway was that this trend is finally feeling a bit more refined. Instead of the expected utility jumpsuit or classic cargo pants, we’re seeing large cargo pockets and starchy fabrics on blazers, dresses, suiting. So if adventure is what you seek this spring, let the 2020 take on the utility trend lead the way whether you’re headed on a chic safari or a quick jaunt down the block. Clearly, the theme here is more about what you’re wearing while on the journey, not necessarily about the journey itself.

In some places, you should be even more careful. In traditional Muslim countries, for instance, you’ll find most women cover almost all visible flesh and wear a scarf over their hair. Perhaps it’s not strictly necessary to follow suit, but you may as well. Be particularly respectful in religious buildings. This doesn’t only apply to non-western countries. In Italy, holy bouncer dudes will bar your entry to some of the most beautiful buildings in the world if you turn up with bare shoulders, arms or knees.

Let’s discuss some spring 2020 trends in the fashion industry. Last season found us in a sea of flowing tulle, indication that gala gowns were ready to hit the circuit beyond your basic black-tie affair. Expanding on that idea for spring 2020 are lovely and light tiered dresses that manage to offer volume, high drama, and maximum twirl-ability. Oscar de la Renta and Roksanda took the idea pretty in pink, while Preen, McQueen, and Dior went classic in black and white. Chanel’s tiered maxi skirts are surprisingly versatile pieces for spring—dress them up with the right blouse and shoe, or make them more casual with a bra top and sandals.

Eclipse wear is packaged in biodegradable cellophane bags. They are made from plant cellulose cellophane that is naturally 100% compostable. Our current bags have a small strip of adhesive at the top, which is not compostable. But we are always striving for better, so we are looking into ways to eliminate that 1% part of the packaging being sent to the landfill!

The Eternal Question: Should you buy a backpack or suitcase? I have a confession: I hate suitcases for long trips. If you’re traveling around the world, your luggage is going to get thrown about and piled high on buses in random countries. It will get used and abused and it’s simply hard to walk up hills and stairs with your suitcase bumping everywhere. Try carrying a suitcase up five flights of stairs in a tiny place in Italy! It’s a pain! Suitcases are great for weekends away or if you’ll be staying in one place for a long time. I always use a carry on suitcase on my short trips. But, if you are moving around a lot and backpacking around the world, it is far better to have a proper backpack. They are simply more versatile, easier to carry up flights of stairs, pack into tight places, and overall, they just make life simpler. I don’t need to pick them up when getting on the escalator. Or drag them up a flight of stairs or across cobblestone streets.
